2014 saw 'dating app' searches reach their highest point in history, while ‘internet dating’ decreased, having peaked in 2006. Romance was alive and well, with 'find girlfriend' searched 100x more than 'find boyfriend.' Despite the latest tech, we strive for the traditional, with searches for 'marriage' outpacing 'divorce.'
The most attractive dating sites
'Badoo' and 'plentyoffish' were most searched globally in 2014, with 'match.com' close behind.
Newer dating apps, like Tinder, connect people based on their physical location. Tinder has grown over 100x in search since its launch in 2012. Love could literally be just around the corner.
Propose Day is celebrated on the second day of Valentine's week. Searches for 'happy propose day' grew by 3x in 2014, even if proposals didn't.
Last minute or months in the making?
We searched 'gifts for boyfriend' 2x more than 'gifts for girlfriend' throughout 2014, with peaks in February.
The search for equality
In 2014 searches for 'same sex marriage,' 'gay marriage' and 'LGBT marriage' increased over last year after the ceremony became legal in England, Scotland, Wales and 20 US states.
